Tiffany Smith-Fleischman

Northwest Makes grew out of a lifelong love of high-quality fabric and design. Tiffany Smith-Fleischman first learned to sew at age 7. Her mom made most of her clothes, and knew well that every sewing project started with a trip to buy fabric. The hunt for the right fabric meant that trips to the fabric store were either amazing or frustrating depending on whether they had something close to what was in her head.

On a whim, Tiffany took a block printing class and started filling up bits of fabric with her own designs. It was a straight line from there to today with stops along to way to learn screen printing and a system to fill bolts of fabric with her seamless pattern repeats. And then she found the perfect linen … the hand, the weight, the base colors, the way it gets better with use, and it’s organic. All Northwest Makes linen is Oeko-Tex certified linen grown and milled in Lithuania.

And once the fabric is printed, Tiffany creates a range of home goods that includes table and kitchen linens, aprons, pillows, bags, and other fun objects made from production scraps. She makes things that are useful and make her happy.

Tiffany takes pride in being a small business in the Issaquah, where she’s been a resident since 2002. Everything is created in her studio in the Issaquah Worklofts. She also teaches sewing and printing classes. Her work is for sale online and at local markets, including
