This Creative Summit will include a social hour, show and tell, and two special workshops to elevate the role of the arts in educational spaces. Enjoy the Art Commons programming from 9:30am-12:30pm, both indoors and outdoors, and also take the time to make the rounds through the farmers market to enjoy the many local producers and artists featured there!
Workshop #1: Clay Station with KidsQuest Children’s Museum
Open to all ages
Explore clay as a medium of self expression and play
This workshop will be outdoors, next to the Hay Barn on the north side of Pickering Barn
Workshop #2: Teaching Artist Training for ANYONE who teaches ANY kind of art
Understanding the Student Experience: Considerations for Art Lesson Design
In this workshop, teaching artists will explore what it’s like to be in their students’ shoes. Together we’ll look at what makes a lesson plan meaningful and relevant, while also expanding student skill sets. Attendees will try out an art lesson, reflect on findings in community, and leave with helpful tips for designing thoughtful art lessons.
Explore approaches to teaching the arts that are rooted in the authenticity of the creative process.
Bring your experience into whatever classroom (formal or informal) you are working in
Ask questions and learn from an experienced teaching artist
Meet other arts educators and make friends!
Please register below - this workshop will be limited to 20 people, and we will keep a waiting list if needed
This workshop will be indoors in the Hay Barn section of Pickering Barn
Across our two workshops, we are thrilled to be featuring some of our region’s inspiring arts educators:
NATASHA TERRY - Multimedia Artist and Educator of Sparrow Song Studio
Natasha is a 4th-generation artist who catalyzes creative potential through analog and contemplative approaches in arts education.

McKenna is a museum educator who loves to bring joy and playfulness into everyday learning and exploration.
IZOBEAU LOUREIRO - ART EDUCATOR, KIDSQUEST
Izobeau is an artist and educator working with families in the Puget Sound to bring Art and Play to KidsQuest Children's Museum and beyond.

If you want to “show” in the show and tell: please bring one work of art to display or perform* for the group, and if you like, you can ask for feedback. The artwork should somehow connect to the theme of “Art in Education.”
Please plan to show only one work of visual art or only one 4-minute performance.
*All performances must be under 4 minutes including setup and takedown time. When you register, you must describe your show and tell performance if you are planning one - these may need to be limited based on available time, so register early to guarantee a spot! We aim to have a PA available with two microphones, although you should be prepared to perform unamplified to a welcoming and respectful audience.
