Brandi Voss

Potter

Bio: Brandi’s love affair with clay began early, the day she hand-built a bear in grade school and later painted it blue. Ceramics soon followed her into high school, college, and adulthood. She established her first studio in California’s wine country, before constructing her home studio here in Issaquah. Voss Ceramics are spare, useful, and elegant designs—bowls made for storing a watercolor paintbrush and cylindrical coffee mugs you want to cup with both hands. All are lead-free stoneware that are dishwasher-, microwave-, and oven-safe.

On her studio wall: A banner reading: “Good things come to those who break clay pots."

On getting unstuck: “I usually need to step away, make an iced coffee, or go for a quick walk.  Just a 10- to 15-minute break, stretch, and jump back in it!”

On homework: Her daughter, Ava, is a frequent collaborator in the studio. Together they created Clay at Home, where Brandi offers take-home lessons and a clay-firing service for aspiring potters who don’t have access to a kiln.

On creative community: “I love being part of the art community in Issaquah and North Bend. My daughter also joins me in many art adventures, classes, art walks, and fairs.”

On best bites: “Food is another love. If I’m not in the studio, I’m in the kitchen. However I love to treat myself to a sushi meal—Aji in the Issaquah Highlands has my heart!”

Hometown: “I’d say I have two hometowns. I spent my younger years in coastal Washington and grew up in San Francisco.”
